Celebration of Islam New Year, NACOMYO Ondo State Felicitates With Muslim Ummah

As Muslims celebrate Hijrah 1446AD today all over the world, National Council of Muslim Youth Organizations ( NACOMYO) ,Ondo State Chapter has joined the entire Muslim Ummah to congratulations Muslim brothers and sisters especially the youths on the opportunity to witness another eventful year. 

At the symposium organized to encourage Muslim Ummah especially youths in Ondo State to see the benefit of the celebration, the State Co-ordinator of NACOMYO, Engr Ogunmola Muhammed Dayo appealed to all Muslim to celebrate with moderation and pray for the state and Nigeria. 

In his Welcomed Address, he charged the state government to prioritize Islam and give more opportunities to Muslims. Below is the full text of the speech delivered to welcome the Executive Governor, Mr Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa and top government functionaries , Muslim leaders, Royal fathers and distinguished guests.

BEING THE SPEECH DELIVERED BY ENGR. OGUNMOLA MUHAMMED, THE STATE CO-ORDINATOR OF NATIONAL COUNCIL OF MUSLIM YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS (NACOMYO), ONDO STATE CHAPTER ON THE OCCASION OF HIJRAH 1446AH CELEBRATION HELD AT AKURE SPORT COMPLEX ON THE 1ST OF MUHARRAM 1446AH [ SUNDAY, 7TH JULY, 2024].

In the name of Allah, The Most Beneficent and The Most Merciful.

I bear witness that none deserves to be worshipped except Allah; and that Prophet Muhammad (May the blessings of Allah be upon the Prophet, his Household and Companions and those who follow him) is His Prophet and Messenger .

Greetings to the Executive Governor of our dear Ondo State, His Excellency, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa; Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Amidu Takuro; Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon Rasheed Badmus; Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Saka Yusuf;  Special Adviser on Special Duty and Strategies, Hon AbdGaniyu Muhammed and other distinguished members of the cabinet. My special greetings also goes to our Spiritual Father, Al-Imam Shaykh (Dr.) Ahmad Aladesawe- The Chairman, League of Imams and Alfas in Ondo State, and our other eminent Spiritual Fathers here present. I salute The Chairman of today's event, Hon. Bunmi Tunji Ojo, the Honourable Minister of Interior; The Co-Chairman, Barr. Abdussalam Alada Sirajudeen Kofo;  our Chairperson, Alhaja Sikiratu Olatuja - The Iya Adinni of Idanre Kingdom; The Chairman, Ondo State Muslim Welfare Board, our Royal Fathers, Political Leaders, Brothers and Sisters in Islam and all well-wishers honourably gathered here with us for this special occasion. May Allah be gracious and merciful to you all. Ameen. 

Today is a very special day for Muslim Faithfuls globally. The Islam New Year starts on the 1st of every Muharram, which is the first month in the Islamic Calendar ; and this historically marks the moment Prophet Muhammad (SAW) fled from Mecca to Yathrib known as Medina to escape religious persecution. This migration is called Hijrah in Arabic. 

NACOMYO, Ondo State Chapter which is the umbrella body for all Muslim Youths is marking this great event today Muharram 1, 1446AH. We gather not only to mark the beginning of a new year in the Islamic calendar alone but also to reflect on its significance and enduring lessons for our lives. It was a journey of faith, sacrifice, and resilience that laid the foundation for the establishment of a just and compassionate society based on the principles of Islam. On this note, we are appealing to Ondo State and Federal Government to genuinely have political will to declare Muharram 1st as Public Holiday to mark every Islamic New Calendar Year as this will serve the dual purpose of recognizing the month.

Obviously NACOMYO Ondo State Chapter has positively added values to the Ondo State Community by engaging in many activities. Part of such activities include sensitization of youths on peaceful co-existence, Quiz and Quranic Recitation Competitions within and outside the State for youth development, Skill Development and Research for Empowerment. In addition, we have involved ourselves in enhancing our democratic value. The Council has served as an election observer with YIAGA Africa (Youth Initiative for Advocacy, Growth and Advancement) under elections being conducted by INEC (Independent National Electoral Commission), as well as organizing sensitization programmes on elections. In the Health Sector, the Council was among the CSOs (Civil Society Organizations) selected by the Malaria Consortium International in the year 2001 to sensitize people of Akoko North East Local Government on the importance and benefit of using Long Lasting Insecticide Treated Nets (LLITN) to prevent malaria. Another important health assignment in which NACOMYO pertook and still pertaking is the NACA (National Agency for Control of AIDS) anchored by ATM Intervention (AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Intervention). This is a project specifically designed to strengthen our community health system. We worked in various Health Centers in Ondo West Local Government in the year 2022/2023 under this Project, at present we are in Ondo East Local Government. Aside system strengthening, the Project has a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Outreach component. This component is availing us the golden opportunity to carry out public campaign against all forms of gender-based violence which has deeply characterized our societies. 

I would like to use this opportunity to acknowledge the tireless efforts of Mr. Governor, His Excellency, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and his cabinet for attending to the various challenges facing the State. These range from educational development, Worker's welfare, Skills Enhancement for the Youths, Agricultural and Infrastructural Development. The current  move for the renovation of Ondo State Sports Stadium Complex by His Excellency is as well appreciated. 

Your Excellency Sir, the Muslim Community have been up and doing in the political activities in Ondo State and parade competent hands within  your political party that can help transform Ondo State to a state that can favourably  compete with the most developed state in the country if given appointment in your cabinet. On this note,  we are appealing to your Excellency to consider more competent and reliable Muslims for appointment in your administration. Not this alone, our public schools; both the primary and secondary are seriously begging for Islamic and Arabic Teachers. We want your Excellency to assist more on this.

Ondo State NACOMYO has two critical projects ahead, namely: The development of the Council's permanent Secretariat and the procurement of Commuter Bus to assist in our Dawah activities. We are appealing to Ondo State Government, as well as our other well-wishers to support us with money, materials and necessary links. We shall be grateful for this assistance.

To us in NACOMYO and Islam in our dear sunshine state, this event is graciously attended and greatly successful. This is heartwarming to us. On this note, the Council expresses deep appreciations to all the institutions, societies and individuals for your presence and contribution. May Allah reward you all abundantly. Ameen.
