June 12: A Period Of Sober Reflection For Our Dear Country Nigeria

A tribute To The Hero of Democracy: MKO Abiola

Nigeria on June 12 ,1993 was primed with great hope and high expectations in Hope ' 93 Mandate of MKO/Kingibe presidential ticket. It was the first and the last hope for the emergence of a great nation with prosperity ,but at last, our hope was shattered ; expectations punctured ; and our great future robbed by the enemies of the nation - a platoon of wicked conspirators, social lepers and  political anathemas in a nationalistic cartel with Gen. Ibrahim Gbadamasi Babangida ( IBB) as the trigger.

Pretty heartwarming on this day was conduct of the most peaceful, transparent , credible, freest , fairest and generally accepted presidential election ,;but regrettably harrowing too was that this date with destiny was botched by the military junta under the conspiracy of Late Gen. Sanni Abacha using the evil genius ,the Maradona of our nation as a step-stool with his cohorts in both khaki and flowing Agbada.

The refusal of propriety and decorum to thrive and the denial of fundamental franchise heartily won to be ligitimately claimed by the assumed winner of the historic election once again laid the unfortunate ugly foundation of doom for a giant but now dwarf called NIGERIA.

So ,the present predicaments of the nation is never strange as they were buried in the foundation of the nation.

Remarkably heartbreaking is the revelation that those who conspired to derail the moving train of a more prosperous nation are now celebrated as heroes of democracy in our clime in all frontiers. This is ,to me, another time bomb as NIGERIA majestically but ignorantly now sits on the kegs of gunpowder.

Nonetheless, our joy is full that Late Moshood Kashimawo Abiola's death is not in vain. After decades of departure ,we have come to term with the glaring evidence of his empyrean voyage that apart from creating a watershed in our history ,his demise is a cesspool of redefinition of the Nigeria State as it's.

The birth of our nascent democracy is not accidental. It was a product of long walk ,a struggle through the valley of death but with God Almighty on our side . However,we paid the huge sacrifice by his death and that of the black-google general , Abacha who truncated our experience with the wicked baby called Interim Government given to Late Ch. Earnest shonekan to nursed and nurtured. Regrettably ,it was a stillbirth and a regrettable curve in our geometry!

The 1999 democratic experience is nothing but another robust opportunity to reconstruct our ugly past with gallery of pains and anguish ; frustrations and despair using Gen. Gowon' tripple R's of Reconciliation, Rehabilitation and Restructuring.  We missed the beautiful chance, instead the recognition of the prime verve of commotion was done with impunity .

The huge price of freedom, Independence and liberty was never made sacred, the Democratic Ethos required to build a new NIGERIA was endangered with greed, graft and indiscipline of the oligarchic few,the plutocrats on the corridors of power through corrupt tendencies with impunity.

In the day of the military juntas, there were ugly and gory scenes of baptism of fires with unfortunate militarization - a pitiable situation of chaotic tsunami laced with landmines and killing squad supervised by Major Al-mustafa .There were pronounced disaffection promoted through religious bigotry, tribal bias and social distortion. The cacophony of bomblssts and the opulent but wicked national looting of our treasuries and sucking of our blood then by the military vampires was reintroduced just immediate after 1998/1999 democrat ic experiment.

We are men and women with short memories. After all, memory is a traitor!

The new chapter opened after the protracted sojourn through emancipation struggle today is but a mirage as the soul and spirit of this fight has been murdered and mutilated in the murky waters of politics and corruption via marginalization of people and interests the unfortunate foundation of ethnic militias like MOSOP, MEND, OPC, IPOB, BAKASSI BOYS and more recently the deadly BOKO-HARAM , and so many others in the background.

Where do we go from here?

With more than a century romance with the unfortunate marriage of inconvenience, we have come to know as a people that our foundation must be revisited and reviewed , and our togetherness and unity via our future be fundamentally addressed with all the sincerity it deserves.

Unfortunately ,this is wickedly denied even with the evident tensions in the land by the present regime which constantly lays claim to Progressivism.

Today , NIGERIA is on the pristine verge of collapse considering the daily human carnage and material collateral damage that have become the woes that betide her. Hope is dwindling in the NIGERIA nation just as trust and confidence are lost gradually in her leadership. What a pity now that Nigerian youth population is disillusioned and hopeless in the helpless situation before them.

If they are truly the ace to the future as change agents, what change will they effect with their negative thoughts and experience tipping them to recruitment in social menaces prioritized by Yahoo-Yahoo, drug addiction and so on ?

The country is strangulated already, and she is grasping for breath heavily!

The unfortunate pogrom of last Sunday, June 5 and the one in Southern Kaduna that happened simultaneously even when democracy under APC, the political party of the president,PMB is under intense pressure to choose who would succeed him,has shaken NIGERIA to her foundation beyond all iotas of doubt and evidently postraying her as a conquered territory before the international community.

Apart from the deluge of condolence messages pouring out from all Dick,Tom and Harry in addition to the living fear in the land ,what have we done collectively to arrest the ugly trend considering the barbaric carnage witnessed in Ondo on Monday, June 6?

The victims of the Owo masacre just like others across the nation are in great pains and anguish and apprehension except for the dead now resting peacefully in the realm. All of us here as citizens are sleeping with one eye closed in panics. Who knows what or who is next?

In a democracy, the people are the kingmakers and the philosophers. But in our clime, dignity of human person and fundamental human right to life are debased and meaningless. Human beings are condemned to chicken ,but the  lives of cows and cattles are precious more than those of the citizens.

This is a pity! Anyway , NIGERIA is having a tentative romance with her twilight. To have a glorious dawn requires humility , devotion and commitment of sacrifice. Who is ready to pay the price and who will bell the cat?

June 12,you are a watershed in our chequered history. You have given NIGERIA hope for redemption, retooling and restructuring for reclamation of her lost glories and restoration of hope in her tomorrow. However, our leaders just like their followers have rubbished your sincere intentions.

Anyway, beyond the echoes, what actually happened to our slain brothers and sisters last Sunday. Is this the hand work of ISWAP as claimed by the federal government or that our our yet unidentified enemies but tagged unknown gunmen as presumed by the governor ,our CSO and many of us?

Again, what is happening within the priesthood as the leadership of the affected church is now alleged of conspiracy? Still very pertinent to demand is the ethnic profiling of this masacre. Is the Fulani herders responsible for this collateral damageor the IPOB in the ongoing conspiracy theory?
Or better still ,is the theory of kidnappers still holding water?

Our people are waiting to hear from our security operatives as our fear must be allayed. This is not a privilege,we have the inalienable right to know who kills and what is killing our kinsmen, compatriots before the altar of Omnipotent and Omniscient God .

We must jealously protect and preserve what June 12 Struggle has given us as  precious :A New Nigeria, A meaningful Democracy , and  good Citizens.

NIGERIA , Good People, Great Nation must continually be our slogan.

Happy June 12 Celebrations To You all that if there is reason to celebrate ,but as for me , this moment calls for truest SOBER REFLECTION.
