The Leaders' Council of the Peoples Democratic Party in Owo local government area has pledged their support for the Senatorial ambition of Akogun Adetokunbo Modupe at the forthcoming primary election slated for May this year.
At the consultative meeting chaired by the former Honourable Minister for State,Education, Ch. ( Dr) Adewumi Abitoye held on Saturday, 2nd April ,2023 but at the residence of Dr Alaba Lad-Ojomo, a former two-term MHR with other distinguished leaders and Elders of the party in the local government in attendance, they unanimously adopted the legendary Public Relations expert and seasoned resource person, Akogun Modupe as the sole candidate for the Senatorial ticket of the party in Ondo North.
Speaking on behalf of the Elders, Architect Sadiq Obanogen,the former House of Representatives Candidate in 2019 in Owo/Ose Federal Constituency said," Akogun as a leader, has contributed immensely to the rebuilding of the party in the state and at the national level when others abandoned it. Therefore ,he can be trusted to fly the flag of the party."
He went further to thank the leaders of the party in the four local government areas in Akoko that were part of his entourage for their support towards the ambition of their son, and assured them that Akogun would not disappoint them if emerged as the Senator representing the district at the National Assembly.
Chief (Barr.) Kunle Ijalana, the Adanigbo Osoko of Iloro Quarter,Owo was of the opinion that since other local government areas in the District have endorsed his candidacy, Owo should do same. He therefore appealed to the leaders to go home by informing their followers of their decision.
Other members of the Leaders' Council in attendance were the Chairman of the party in Owo local government,High Chief Idris Olafimihan Asaba, Hon Tunji Dairo-two term MHA, Bar Dupe Aisida- former Zonal Legal Adviser, Bashorun Banjo Abitogun- former Chairman,Ondo State Library Board /incumbent General Manager of Breeze FM, Hon Gbenga Aro- former SUBEB Secretary, Dr Supo Ijabadeniyi - former SSA to Gov. Agagu on Youth and Student Matters , Dr Duromola Monday (Templer)- former local government Executive Secretary amongst several others.
A prayer session was led by Arc. Sadiq Obanogen and Dr Supo Ijabadeniyi for a successful outings at the primary election and the general election.
An elated Akogun who was awed by the support of the Leaders said that he would carry the confidence that has been reposed in him with determination and focus. He promised not to disappoint them if elected to represent the district at the 10th National Assembly.
He said while thanking the leader for their unflinching support, " From my antecedents as a party man, I have always respected the structure of the party, and will continue to uphold her tenets at all times. "
Furthermore, he said he would consult regularly with the elders across the Senatorial District and also use his office to create opportunities for the benefit of all.
Earlier, Akogun Tokunbo Modupe and his team had visited the the Local Government Executives/ward Chairmen at the party Secretariat opposite Oba Olateru-Olagbegi civic centre but thereafter met with the statutory delegates drawn fry the ward level to solicit their support for the forthcoming primary election of the party.
