At a crucial meeting of the joint sitting of Owo Lg Executive Committee and the eleven (11) Ward Chairmen that held yesterday ,Friday, 25th March ,2022 at the Courtyard of the PDP Chairman, High CH. Idris Okeowo Asaba who doubles as a high chief in Iloro Quarter, Owo, Dr Bode Ayorinde ,the former member of House of Representatives who also is the Pro-Chancellor of The Achievers University,Owo officially declared his political ambition to run again for the coveted seat of member of House of Representatives, Owo/Ose Federal Constituency.
While receiving the political gladiator and great democrat, the Publicity Secretary, Akogun Niyi Folahanmi described the Ayorinde as man with household name in Owo and Ose LGAs and beyond.
In his address, the indefatigable Chairman of the party and consummate community leader, High Ch. Asaba described Hon. Bode Ayorinde as a man with track record of political involvement. He further said the terrain is a familiar terrain for the astute politician. He however appealed to the political gladiator to play the game according to the rule as Nigerians look forward to the PDP for rescue.
While addressing the party executive officers in the local government area, Bode Ayorinde who is a seasoned legal luminary, a brilliant university don and articulate politician officially seeked for their support and canvass for their votes in his aspiration to represent them and his constituents at the green chamber . He went into the memory lane as he mentioned that he became MHR on the platform of APC in 2015 having contested for elective offices previously in Labour party and ACN. He stressed further that he had lost and won elections many times, and that he understands the terrain pretty well being a former MP and now a ranking member of House of Representatives.
" This is my third attempt in PDP. I lost the Reps election in 2019. I ran for the governorship which I didn't make too. I'm running again for Reps in 2022. I lost in 2019 despite being the legal adviser of the thirty-seven (37) R-APC members led by Dr Bukola Saraki that cross-carpeted into the PDP. It was painful as we lost the ticket. When I contested for the governorship, I ensured that delegate especially in Owo LGA got my incentive except those that voluntarily declined. No aspirant did that ,but I got 95 votes which is a far cry from the numbers of delegates in Owo alone. This is politics, I'm not deterred. I understand the game. "
He therefore used the avenue to appeal to the PDP officers as critical stakeholders to forget the past and forgive where necessary and to help financially unburdened the aspirants for the various elective positions so as to help them to save for the raining day. " You must be empathic to the aspirants. Please, be merciful as you must be strategic to win elections as a party in opposition", he finally pleaded.
Giving the reasons while he should be given the ticket, the brave and precocious Bode opined," I'm a ranking member. No first timer gets the position of Chairman of a House Committee or any other juicy position like Majority Leader, Minority Leader, Chief Whip, etc . You would recollect that in the second time of Dr Alaba-Lad Ojomo, he got the Chairman of House Committee on Health. He was ,with the position, able to assist many party members and constituents.
In his brief reaction, Ch. Festus Eleduma , an ex-officio appreciated the former MHR for his great investment in education and job creation via the Achiever's University. " I thank you for the job opportunities provided especially for our members here. Who knows what could have been their fate if you failed to employ them. I'm indebted to you on behalf of our members. " He thereafter emphasized the need for the aspirants to fund the party. " We are here running the party daily. Most of our aspirants are not here with us and do not support the party at most critical times. This is an avenue to pay their price for using our platform to realize their political dreams. It's the tradition ,but we are moderate, and we shall be more considerate. "
Alh. Obanigba Isiaka described Bode as an enigma with small body but big engine. " I was in Ibadan and I saw your investment. It was huge and laudable. I must thank you for your giant stride here in Owo for the establishment of The Achievers University. Honesty this project has placed Owo on the global map. Your pedigree and meritorious service are prerequisites for acceptance and support." "However, I'm very constrained to tell you that you allowed the 2019 ticket which ordinarily should have been won by the PDP to be wasted. Please, kindly ensure such situation does not repeat itself again."
The Secretary of the party, Hon. Adebo Afolabi ,jocularly described as a ranking Scribe appreciated the sportsmanship of the political juggernaut demonstrated in 2020 governorship poll. " You contested and lost the ticket to Eyitayo Jegede,SAN in the primary. You did support the candidate and our party to the end. This is highly commendable. Again, with your huge investment in education through your university, if it were to be in my town ,Uso, we would worship you forever. You have done well. You deserved our support. "
On the aspirants and financial contributions/ party funding, Adebo explained, " We are not wicked or ungrateful. We have paid our price as party officers . Other stakeholders must do the same. Today, we have just got a new party Secretariat. We have unsettled debt like the unpaid salaries of the office assistant and others. So we need money for day to day running of the secretariat. Our Chairman needs to be adequately taken care of as our number ambassador. We are telling you because I know you are able and capable", he submitted emphatically.
Dr Ayorinde appreciated the partyexecutive officers for their open declaration of support. He briefly responded that he influenced the road that leads to the Achievers University when the state government under the ruling APC refused to build the road. " I shall use my influence if I become the MHR to fix some federal roads like the Idasen-Isijogun-Ute Road, Emure- Eporo Road, Uso-Ise Road and many others in the constituency", he finally concluded.
