The Benue State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Zoning Committee,HE,Gov. Samuel Ortom, on Tuesday in Abuja reiterated the commitment of his Committee to producing a zoning formula that shall reflect the diversity in Nigeria and accommodate all interests across partitions within the party.
Speaking at the 37-man committee’s second meeting, Ortom pointedly made it known to newsmen that his committee's mandate has been extended to 5th April,2022 as it is far from achieving its cardinal objectives for now.
Seven aspirants have picked the PDP presidential nomination and expression of interest forms to compete for the party presidential ticket. This is another factor that needs to be considered by the committee in making a far-reaching decision
The PDP is under intense pressure to zone its national offices so that the party is not thrown into confusion now that the aspirants drawn from various zones of the country have purchased nomination forms.
Ortom however maintained, “My Committee meeting is still ongoing. We have adjourned till Tuesday next week at the same time, at the same venue. And until we conclude the proceedings, there is not much to say. " Nonethe, he revealed that all members of his committe has demonstrated great resolve and high level of understanding. "For now" ,according to him, 'tension is ruled out" .
“As a committee, noting the huge task before us,we understand that zoning is fundamental ,and we are seriously hoping that at the end, we will do something that is acceptable to all critical stakeholders. Then we shall go ahead as one big family and win the 2023 elections at all levels”, he finally declared.
