INEC Clears 365,088 Voters,Seven Political Parties For Akure Reps Bye-Election

 

All is now set to conduct next Saturday bye-election for Akure North/Akure South Federal Constituency. 


You will recall that Hon. Adedayo Omalafe Expensive of the PDP who represented the Constituency in the National Assemby slumped and died last year. 

Ahead of the 26th February , 2022 bye-election in the Federal Constituency of Ondo State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared that it would use the updated voters’ register used for the 2019 general poll for the upcoming exercise.

Ambassador (Dr.) Rufus Akeju, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, on Friday in Akure disclosed to newsmen in preparation of INEC  for the bye-election.

He made known to the public that those who had registered in the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR)  Exercise in June 2021 till date would not be able to vote during the bye-election because the data from the CVR were yet to be aggregated.

The electoral body has a total of 365,088 registered voters for both Akure North and Akure South in 2019.

Akure North has 74,825 registered voters while Akure South has 290,267 registered voters in the same year.

The newly introduced technology, Biometric Voter Authentication System (BVAS), would also be deployed for the process/exercise of the bye-election.

The BVAS would accredit voters through fingerprintor facial recognition as well as transmit the results of the polls from the polling units to the INEC Results Viewing (IRev) portal of the commission in real-time.

Seven political parties; AA, ADP, APP APC, PDP, SDP, and NRM would be participating in the bye-election.

The election would start at 8:30 am and end by 2:30 pm on Saturday as announced by INEC.
